Walterstown Junior B team began their league campaign with an impressive 2-15 to 2-09 win over Na FIanna in Enfield.
Na Fianna were first off the mark with a point after 2 minutes, 3 minutes later Walterstown got on the scoreboard as Vinny Murphy put the ball in the back of the net to put the blacks 2 ahead.
Na Fianna hit back 2 minutes later with a goal of their own and added a further 3 points to build up a 4 point lead with 10 minutes gone.
Walterstown however finished the half the strongest with Mark McCormack scoring 1-03 and V.Murphy adding a further 0-3 to his tally. Na Fianna only scored 1 point in this period to leave Walterstown going in at half time leading 2-06 to 1-05.
Na Fianna opened the scoring in the 2nd half, however Mark McGrane responded a minute later to keep the blacks 4 ahead. Na Fianna reduced the blacks lead to just 2 points with 10 minutes gone. Justin McCarthy and Mark McCormack had the blacks 4 points ahead scoring the next 2 points. Na Fianna were determined to stay in the game and had reduced the blacks lead to 3 points with 15 minutes gone. The blacks however scored 3 unanswered points to crucially give them a 6 point cushion with 26 minutes gone. Na Fianna hit back once again scoring a goal 2 minutes later. Walterstown held out for the win finishing the game with points from Mark McCormack, Aron McLoughlin and Justin McCarthy giving them a 2-15 to 2-09 win over Na Fianna.
