Walterstown minors came into the second round back at full strength with 20 players to choose from against neighbours Simonstown.
It took 7 minutes for the opening score to come in the game with Brian O’Connell scoring a point this score started a strong 15 minute spell for the blacks where the completely took control of the opposition scoring a further 1-06 to go 10 points ahead. The wind was a major factor in the first half with Simonstown playing against the wind and it took Simonstown until the 20th minute to get their first score. Stephen Davis added a further score for the blacks in the 23rd minute before Simonstown got their second score of the game before half time to leave the half time score – Walterstown 1-08 v Simonstown 0-2.
Simonstown started the 2nd half the strongest scoring 3 early points to close the gap to 8 points, however this was soon cancelled out with Stephen Davis hitting the back of the net to put the gap back to 11 with 11 minutes gone in the second half. Walterstown further increased their lead with Brian O’Connell adding a point 2 minutes later. Both teams went through a 10 minute spell with no scores before Walterstown were awarded a penalty on the 22nd minute from which Michael Donnellan converted to give the boys in black an impressive 15 point lead. Walterstown were impressive from the start and never looked like falling behind once they got the early scores, Simonstown did have a late rally scoring 1-01 however Walterstown ran out convincing winners – Full Time score Walterstown 3-09 v Simonstown 1-07.
