After an impressive victory over Simonstown just a week ago the minor boys faced Jenkinstown Gaels in round 3 of the league.
Walterstown started the game the strongest with Paddy McCabe and Brian O’Connell scoring 2 early points before Michael Donnellan hit the back of the net after 5 minutes to build up a 1-02 to 0-0 lead. Jenkinstown Gaels responded by scoring 0-2 in the next 5 minutes to bring just 3 between the sides
Sean Irwin and Stephen Davis added the next 2 points and Paddy McCabe added a 2nd goal for Walterstown to put them 8 ahead. Neil Freeman added a point 3 minutes later to increase their lead to 9 points. Jenkinstown Gaels reduced the gap to 8 points after 18 minutes.
With 20 minutes gone Stephen Davis needed to be stretchered off and taken to hospital after a late challenge which went unnoticed by the referee.
After the stoppage in play Jenkinstown Gaels scored their first goal of the game to reduce Walterstowns lead to 6 points however the blacks finished the half the strongest with Brian O’Connell scoring a 3rd goal before Kashif Ali added a further point just before ht to leave the half time score – Walterstown 3-06 v Jenkinstown Gaels 1-03.
Jenkinstown Gaels scored 2 early points in the second half to reduce the gap to 7 points, however 2 minutes later Michael Donnellan scored his 2nd goal of the game and with Brian O’Connell adding a point a minute later this effectively ended the contest with the boys in black now leading by 11 points. Jenkinstown Gaels did add another goal to their tally to reduce the lead to 8 points however this was the closest they got as Sean Irwin added a further point for Walterstown and the last 10 minutes seen Walterstown add 1-02 v Jenkinstown Gaels 0-2 to run out convincing 5-10 to 2-06 winners.
