Minor Football Division C2 Round 1 Wednesday 8th July
Walterstown got off to a quick start where some great determination by Brian O Connell in getting possession and setting up Stephen Davis for a goal within the first 3 minutes. This was followed quickly by a point by Conor Grogan. Killary hauled back a point, before Stephen Davis scored one from play, followed by another from a free kick for a foul on Jack Donnellan. Killary responded by scoring two points of their own. Just before half time a good goal bound shot from Brian O Connell was saved by the keeper at the expense of another point for Walterstown. They headed into the break Walterstown 1:5 Killary Emmets 3 points.
The second half got off to an even faster start than the first with Brian O Connell scoring a goal in the first minute. Killary however started to come back into it with 2 points and a goal in quick succession and for a while it looked like we might have a game on our hands. However the lads dug in and then the scores started to flow. A goal by Sean Irwin was followed by a string of points by Brian O Connell and Stephen Davis. Brian bagged Walterstowns’ fourth goal. Points from Stephen Davis, Conor Grogan, Barry O Connell and Michael Donnellan put Walterstown firmly ahead, before arguably the score of the match with the ball moved quickly from defence into attack lead to Barry O Connell netting Walterstowns fifth goal in the last minute of play.
When done to all the lads who were as good in defense as attack, and now travel to face Clann na nGael on Friday at 7.30pm
