Oldcastle v Walterstown

On Thursday evening 16th October the Walterstown U13s  travelled the long way to play Oldcastle under lights in Millbrook. Oldcastle being the runaway leaders on Division 2 and had won all of their previous games by large margins.

With a large squad in attendance Walterstown matched the home team tackle for tackle and score for score. By half time the home team had established a lead of a couple of goals but this game was by no way of means one sided. The Blacks dug deep in the second half and stated to reduce the lead gaining the upper hand and winning the individual battles. With Luc Doyle and Oliver Maloney leading the charge the scores were level with one minute to go but the home team managed to add one further point to secure the two points. A disappointed Walterstown team headed home, however, Oldcastle had met their match.

Walterstown V St Pats Stamullen

A win was a must to guarantee automatic qualification for a semi-final. We welcomed St Pats from Stamulllen for a 2pm throw in. Both teams were level on points and wanted to win. The away team started brightly and early scores helped them build a commanding lead after twenty minutes. The home team were battling well but were second to the breaking ball. We needed to regroup for the second half of 25 minutes. Could we overturn a 10 point deficit?

Half time Score Walterstown 1 5  St Pats 5 3

Bang! Goal, Bang! Goal, Bang! Goal, This team battles like no other. Quick goals put St Pats on the backfoot early on. Frees awarded were being converted into scores with slick finishing by Fionnon O Connor. The lads drove forward as a unit and produced the best football of the competition to try to reel their Stamullen neighbours in. Each lad in every position was fantastic combining to gain the upper hand as the final whistle approached. With 25 minutes played Walterstown led by 2 points. In the final moments of the match in added time of “four minutes” St Pats levelled and the final points were shared. The lads gave their all and left everything on the pitch.
