Our Walterstown Under 14’s travelled to Don/Ashbourne for the 3rd round of the Div 1 league on Thursday evening at 7 o clock.
The lads started on the attack and had several chances to get the score board moving but failed to take their chances which would prove decisive. It was only after several attacks and eight minutes in before Walterstwon took the lead with a goal from Jack Doyle.  Scores came slowly after that and Ashbourne kept themselves in the game with some well taken points . Euan Burton added a second goal with about 5 minutes remaining in the half.
Half time score was Don/Ashbourne 0-4 Walterstwown 2-2.
The second half started with a point from Sean McGinley but would prove to be the start of a baron spell for the Blacks, also & unfortunately to Walterstwon they suffered an injury to Connor McGuire which changed the balance of the half back line. The Ashbourne team were on the ascendancy now and scored a number of points and a goal without reply.
A late goal from John Cullen looked to have the game back in the balance but according to the Ref there was still 3 points in the game !!!!!!!. Walterstown were awarded a late 14 yard free and with a 3 point gap we had to go for goal , the resulting free kick was taken by Adam Barrett but was tipped over the bar …….
Hopefully we’ll take some experience from this game and learn from it , onwards we go !!! 🙂
Next up for the lads is a home game V Rathoath on Friday night which was postponed Sunday due to waterlogged pitch .
