U14 Boys Summer League Div 1 Rd 3 Thursday 20th July

On a grey Thursday evening Walterstown faced Simonstown in their fourth meeting so far this year. Both sides are very familiar with each other and both sides were promoted to Division 1 for the Summer Leagues.

Walterstown got out of the blocks fast and before three minutes had elapsed Walterstown were six points clear with early points from Eoin McCague, Padraic Freeman and John Cullen, and a third minute goal from Eoin McGague. Simonstown got off the mark in the seventh minute with their first point which they quickly followed with another. Half way through the first half Adam Quinn netted Walterstowns second goal of game, but Simonstown hit back hard with two goals in two minutes to bring them right back into contention. The dark clouds that had threatened all evening then opened their bellies and the rain came pouring down. Adam Quinn bagged his second goal of the night just before half time to give Walterstown a four point lead.

After the break, the rain persisted, and Simonstown were the brighter side and grabbed another goal 10 minutes in. The game was now anyone’s for the taking, Adam Quinn calmly slotted the ball into the far corner of the net to grab hit hat trick on 17 minutes, only to see this cancelled out 2 minutes later. Daire Cosgrove, benefiting from some good follow up play grabbed the black’s fifth goal of the evening. However Simonstown were not finished, and in the last minute of normal time were awarded a penalty, which they dully converted to put them one point up, a lead they held onto.
