O Mahoney’s got off to a good start with two quick points on Saturday Afternoon. They almost strectched their lead even further but for a fantastic save from Walterstown Keeper Ciara Looby, who continued her fine form between the posts, but minutes later they did manage to put the ball in the back of the net.Walterstown finally got off the mark via a goal from Aoife Farrell, who was also unlucky not to follow this up with a point soon after, only to see it come back off the post. Walterstown got going then and followed up with a point from McCarthy and a fabulous long range goal from Laura Fox who chipped the keeper. O’Mahoneys when back on the attack scoring two points of their own only for these to be cancelled out by points from Kate and Marie McCarthy. Sophie Dempsey then went close only to see the ball come back off the cross bar but Marie McCarthy was alive to the situation and slotted home her first goal of the game.

It was Walterstown’s turn to have a quick start in the second half with Marie McCarthy grabbing her second of the game. O Mahoneys fought back with a goal of their own but this was duly cancelled out by a Kate McCarthy goal. With O’Mahoneys playing downhill and the breeze at their backs they started to reel Walterstown in and went on to score a goal and 5 points unanswered to draw level with Walterstown and set up a grandstand finish. However Marie McCarthy had the final say with a point and her third goal of the afternoon.

It was a tough and close match with O Mahoneys pushing Walterstown all the way , and given it was 11 a side on a full pitch all the girls really did work their socks off.
