Corn Na Boinne Semi Final –Walterstown 0-14 Bective 1-7

Walterstown and Bective travelled to Moynalty on Thursday night to contest the Semi Final of The Corn Na Boinne. This was a thoroughly entertaining match for all in attendance. Walterstown got off the mark smartly, thanks to 2 well taken John Geoghegan points. Bective’s forwards who fought hard, found it difficult to get past the tightly marking Walterstown defenders. Davy Reynolds and the McGrane brothers had particularly good performances. They were ably assisted by Conor Cullen , Colm O Reilly and Davy Donnellan. Walterstown still needed to rely on 2 point blank saves from their stand-in keeper Ciaran Lydon in the first half. At half time they were 0-8 to 04 ahead.
After the break Bective had the lead down to 3 points in the 1st minute. Paul Donnelan replied for Walterstown with a point from an acute angle. Alban Crosbie and Conor O Sullivan worked hard at mid-field as Walterstown’ forwards continued to pile on the pressure. Full forward, Joey Coogan scored 2 more spectacular points to bring his tally from play to 0-4. Ruairi O Dowd added 2 further valuable points. Christopher Farrelly worked hard and distributed well in the half-forward line. Bective were somewhat wasteful from placed balls during this game. However they did strike for a well taken goal with 10 minutes remaining but Walterstown added 2 more points from John Geoghegan and Brian O Connell to leave the score at 0-14 to 1-7 at the final whistle. Walterstown were missing several of their first team players but their replacements, did their team mates proud. In the second half Walterstown lost 3 other players to injuries but Neil Freeman, Kashif Ali and Dan Halligan deputised well for them. Now Walterstown will meet Dunderry in the Final.
