Walterstown Too Strong For Longwood IFC Sat 13 Aug in Summerhill
Having let slip a 10 point lead against Castletown in last weekend’s IFC match, Walterstown were in a much less forgiving mood on Sat evening in the 4th round of the IFC against Longwood in Sunmmerhill. Walterstown again made a good start to the game with 3 quick points from Aaron McLoughlin, David Donnellan and Joey Coogan. Their full-back line marshalled by full-back Cathal Hennelly tackled tenaciously, smothering up most Longwood moves. The half back line of Mark McCormack, John Geoghegan, and Davy Donnellan worked tirelessly in defence setting up attack after attack as Walterstown surged into a 0-8 to 0-2 lead after just 10 minutes. Conor O Sullivan and Alban Crosbie were on top in Midfield while all 6 Walterstown forwards scored. By half time Manager, Eamon Barry and his mentors Martin O Connell and Christy Bowens were pleased to see their team ahead by 1-13 to 0-6.
In the second half Walterstown continued the onslaught and though Mickey Burke and his Longwood team fought on gamely the deficit continued to mount. Ruairí O Dowd gave a masterful display at full forward and scored 2-06 from play and also one 45. Walterstown’s corner forward Brian O Connell not to be outdone also contributed a further 2-04. At the final whistle the score line read 4-27 to 1-11
This was a very comprehensive display from the Blacks and is a confidence booster ahead of next weekend’s vital match against St Ultans.
