A League Sat Mar 25th    Walterstown vs Meath Hill

Walt 1-10 Meath Hill 1-10

Walterstown travelled to North Meath to play Meath Hill in Div 2 of the A League last Saturday night. The match played under lights, was a tight contest right to the final whistle. Walterstown’s mid field partnership of Conor O Sullivan and Davy Reynolds had to be at their best against the Meath Hill midfielders who were both big and mobile. Walterstown defenders Dan Halligan Colm Reilly Conor Cullen Neil Freeman Colin McGrane and David Donnellan had to be at their sharpest against a Meath Hill’s speedy skilful forwards. Half way through the 1st half Meath Hill scored a good goal to go 3 points up.However Walterstown quickly levelled the scores again through an excellent individual goal from Ruairi O Dowd. Walterstown lost their centre forward O Dowd to a Black Card a few minutes later. Paul Donnellan then scored his second point of the night to put Walterstown back in front by a point. Just before half time Meath Hill drew level again leaving the score at 1-7 each.

Walterstown having lost O Dowd and also missing several other players on the night, had to battle hard in the second half. Now forced to be more defensive they held Meath Hill to just 3 points in the second half. They themselves scored 3 also, 2 from Brian O Connell and 1 from Colin McGrane. However Eamon Barry and selectors Martin O Connell and Christy Bowens must have felt Walterstown could have won except for some poor shooting in a frantic last 10 minutes. When Seamas O Connor blew for full time both sides seemed happy enough with the draw.
