Walterstown Under 12’s continued their preparations against top tier opponents Dunboyne this Saturday in Walterstown.

Spring arrived with a bang on a beautiful sunny morning and there was a spring in the step of the Walterstown girls as they played some lovely football to lead at the end of the first quarter. Though the eye catching scores from Sarah Jane Lyons and Zoe Harte drew rounds of applause, it was the tough tackling of Maia Mc Govern and Ruby Rodgers which built the platform for the girls.

Dunboyne were no push over and came back strongly in the second quarter to narrow the gap at half time. Walterstown are made of strong stuff and after a few tasty pieces of orange and encouraging words at half time the Under 12’s started the third quarter at pace. Great play by Emily Reilly resulted in some superb scores as well as setting up a great goal.

Dunboyne never gave up but Walterstown tackled and blocked balls like demons, epitomised by Aine Downes and Rebecca Roche.

Méabh McCarrick displayed some excellent goalkeeping skills between the posts to ensure that the Black’s ran out the winners.

Another good test for the season ahead.

The mood is good and the hopes are high for Walterstown Under 12.
