Under 13’s League Division 2 Round 5
Walterstown v St Peters Dunboyne
On Friday evening Walterstown welcomed St Peters Dunboyne for a 7pm throw in under lights. A depleted Blacks squad only had the minimum 13 players in attendance and were hoping for a 4th win in a row. St Peters started very brightly and had the home team under pressure from the off. Two quick goals and several points helped the away team race to a large lead and this would prove to be the pattern of the first half. A battling Walterstown team dug in to contain their opponents and worked together to reduce the deficit throughout the first 25 minutes.
Half Time Score Walterstown 2 2 St Peters 5 7
The Blacks started the second half impressively, showing good speed and great team link play. Early scores were the key and the Blacks obliged with two well taken goals to reduce the difference between the teams. A superb St Peters goalkeeper was proving to be a difficult player to beat and produced many fine saves. With the bit between their teeth the home team were getting the better of their opponents and giving them a far more difficult game. Scores were traded throughout and with great teamwork the Blacks outscored their Dunboyne neighbours in the second 25 minutes by 2 7 to 2 6. Walterstowns Evan Mulligan contributed a fine 2 4 to the Blacks total whilst defensively Eoin Heffernan caught the eye with a solid performance. When the final whistle blew a relieved Dunboyne team held on to win. The Blacks remain in joint second in Division 2 after the 5th round of games
