Ladies Division 4 League Final

St Pats V Walterstown Dunganny Saturday 12th October.

Walterstown and St Pats faced each other in the Division 4 final in Dunganny on Saturday evening on the astro pitch. St Pats got of to a flying start when the were awarded a penalty in the opening minute, which was duly dispatched by Megan McCormack. Walterstown responded with some good pressure and it was only 3 minutes later when Emily Davis squared the game when she found the back of the net. St Patricks midfielder Annie Brangan was sin binned eight minutes in but Walterstown struggled to take advantage of their numerical supremacy, indeed St Pats could have extended their lead but for some fine last ditch defending from Sophia Gillooly. As the rain came down heavily, St Pats kept the score board ticking over with two points from two frees. Mollie Brown got Walterstowns first point of the game, but Pat’s hit back with two points of their own. Twenty-three minutes in captain Edel McGrane picked up a yellow card and Walterstown would have to play the remainder of the half with fourteen. A point from Walterstown’s Niamh McGuinness concluded the scoring for opening half.

Walterstown brought on Sarah Heffernan and Jennifer Lynch for the start of the second half. Both sides struggled to settle in the opening exchanges, and it was Edel McGrane who came closest to opening the scoring seven minutes in. It was St Pats though who got the opening score of the half, another goal two minutes later. Emily Davis can close to cancelling the goal out only to see her effort come back off the black spot but was quick enough to send the rebound over the bar. St Pats where then awarded their second penalty of the game. It too was converted, and Pats now had a seven- point cushion. Walterstown were not going to give up though and Emily Davis got her second goal of the same twenty minutes in. Walterstown continued to press, searching for goals to narrow the gap, but on 30 mins Pats broke free and netted their fourth goal of the game which ensured that they would be taking the trophy back to Stamullen.
