Walterstown impressed as they returned to league action on Saturday evening with a convincing 3-13 to 0-8 win over St.Colmcilles in difficult conditions.
St.Colmcilles opened the scoring with 2 points in the opening stages, Walterstown responded with 7 unanswered points with Mark McCormack getting the blacks off the mark after 7 minutes. The Walterstown forwards impressed throughout the game combining well with Paul Donnellan (0-2), Robbie McDonnell (0-2), Conor O’Sullivan and Richie Barry (0-1 each) all adding scores to build up a 5 point lead. St.Colmcilles and Walterstown finished the half with 2 points each to leave Walterstown leading 0-9 v 0-4 at half time.
St.Colmcilles opened the scoring in the 2nd half with a point inside the first minute, Richie Barry immediately responded to push Walterstown back 5 ahead. St.Colmcilles had reduced the gap to just 3 points with 10 minutes left. Both sides struggled for scores in the next 5 minutes however Walterstown took complete control in the final minutes with Paul Donnellan scoring a goal to leave Walterstown now leading by 6 points with time running out, Richie Barry added 2 goals in a minute to leave 12 between the sides and Alban Crosbie and Paul Donnellan rounded off the scoring with 2 further points to give Walterstown a convincing 3-13 to 0-8 win with 3-10 of their tally coming from play.
