Walterstown went to Kells for round 2 in the league today knowing this match was important as they will meet again in the group stages of the senior championship.
The blacks scored first through R McDonnell. Gaeil Colmcilles pushed on with the next 3 points, R McDonnell and A Crosbie got the Blacks level after 20 mins. Gaeil Colmcilles pushed on again and opened up a 3 point lead. Walterstown needed a score or two before half time came and P Donnellan and R O Dowd slotted over to see the Blacks going in at half time just a point down 0-5 to 0-6.
Gaeil Colmcilles came out in the second half all guns blazing scoring the first 2 points and were winning all the balls in the middle of the field, the blacks were under the cosh and things went from bad to worse when the ref awarded a penalty to the home team in a slightly dubious call, Gaeil Colmcilles converted from the spot to put them 6 points ahead. Walterstown saw the game slipping away and responded very well piling on the pressure and got the score board ticking over and got back within 2 points, the clock was against them and Gaeil Colmcilles scored the last point of the game to close out with a 3 point win.
