Playing entertaining football the new-look Walterstown team produced some excellent football to carve out a deserved victory over Na Fianna in the Ladies Junior B FC encounter at Walterstown on Thursday evening.
Packed with young players emerging through the ranks the Blacks were bright and alert throughout racing into a 4-2 to 2-1 interval lead before marching on to deserved victory.
Walterstown have lost the services of a number of players this year but others have stepped up to the plate and they showed they they will be a force this summer.
Mollie Gray grabbed Walterstown’s opening goal and the same player also fired over her team’s opening point of the evening.
From the start Walterstown created opportunities with their fast-paced football on a warm evening and while Na Fianna stayed in touch the visitors were never threatened to overhaul their opponents.
With Brenda O’Sullivan, Leanne Butler and Aileen O’Sullivan also finding the net in the opening half Walterstown took a firm grip of the game and at the break they had that strong advantage.
In the second-half Brenda O’Sullivan again hit the target and with Jenny Finlay, Butler, Aileen O’Sullivan, Gray, Rachel Hennelly and Aoife Farrell also pointing Walterstown powered on to an impressive victory. This was an first-rate team display from the Blacks.
