Walterstown VS Trim B League Div 2 Wed April 19th 2017
Walterstown played Trim in Walterstown on Wed last. This was a hotly contested and highly entertaining match. Walterstown got off to an excellent start and were 6 points to 1 ahead midway through the first half, thanks to 2 points from Paul Donnellan and points from Cormac Madden, Vinny Murphy, Joe Coogan and Alan Wall. Walterstown’s defenders had to at their best against a skilful Trim attack. Conor Cassidy scored a nice point to put Walterstown 0-9 to 0-5 ahead. However Trim got into the game and narrowed the gap to 9 to 5 points just before half time. Then just before half time they scored an excellent goal, which Walterstown keeper Darragh Keegan could only watch flying into the top right corner of the net. The score was now 0-9 to 1-5 in favour of the Blacks.
In the second half Trim were on top at first and after 15 minutes were 1-12 to 0-10 ahead. Walterstown, the home team fought back with points from Cormac Madden, Paul Donnellan, Vinny Murphy and 2 from mid-fielder Alan Wall. Francis Cosgrove scored 2 points in the dying minutes to level the game at 0-16 to 1-13. In those final minutes Walterstown had opportunities to win the match but wasted a couple of scorable chances. A draw looked imminent but with a minute left Darragh Keegan was forced to pull off a spectacular point blank save at the expense of a 45. The Trim free taker kept his nerve and pointed to put them 1 point ahead, just seconds before Referee Gerry Keogan blew the final whistle.
