Walterstown v Moynalvey
Walterstown ladies were playing at home in a must win game that would decide their status as a Junior A Team for the following season. The squad was missing several key players, such as Edel McGrane, Jennifer Lynch, Eimear Farrelly and Sophia Gillooly.
Walterstown had the brighter start and in no time at all were two points to the good. Walterstown had the lions share of the possession in the opening stages and this used this to their advantage as Sarah Heffernan grabbed the first goal of the game after ten minutes. Moynalvey were not going to give up without a fit and they registered there next three points. Sarah Heffernan was in the mood though and grabbed her second goal of the game and Walterstown extended their lead with further points from Jane O Connell and Emily Davis. Walterstown had a healthy six-point lead at the half time break.
Half time score: Walterstown 2-6(12) Moynalvey 0-6(6)
Once again Walterstown were brighter at the restart and that girl again, Sarah Heffernan grabbed her hat trick early on and Martina O Neill pushed Walterstown lead out to 10 points. The momentum however was swinging towards Moynalvey though as mid-way through the second half they began reeling Walterstown. Goals in the 13th and 15th minute and 23rd minute meant that this was going to be a nail bitter of a finish. Moynalvey were pushing for a goal to seal the win, but the blacks defensive line held out and late points from the impressive Emily Davis and Niamh McGuinness would ensure a two-point winning margin for the ladies and survival in Junior A.
