Walterstown traveled to Carlanstown to face St Michaels on Monday knowing that a win would keep them safe in Division 2. Anything else but a win would leave the outcome out their hands with all three teams below them having the opportunity to overtake them should they win.

Walterstown got off to a perfect start with Barry O Connell fisting the ball into the Michaels net after only a minute. This was followed up with a point from Aron McLoughlin , and also a point from Barry. After just 5 minutes on the clock Walterstown had a four point lead. Michaels clawed back 3 more points before Walterstown were dealt a blow when Brian McGrane received a second yellow and would have to play with 14 for the remainder of the game, this was quickly followed by David McGuire having to depart injured to be replaced by Mark McCormack. Sam McCabe got Walterstowns second goal of the game with four minutes to go to half time but it was Michaels who went in ahead , by a single point having breached the Walterstown defense just before half time with their only goal of the game

Half Time : St Michalaels 1:7 Walterstown 2:03

After the break Cormac Madden scored a point for the blacks after 2 minutes, but Michaels now had a firm hand on the game. They converted another unanswered nine points to race into a commanding lead and never looked like being caught, and they were not. Barry O Connell popped over another point from a free just before the final whistle blew.

After the game there was an anxious wait as the other results came through, Castletown lost, but Dunderry & Blackhall Gaels both won, leapfrogging Walterstown and sending them straight down to Division 3 along with Castletown.
