Walterstown GFC v Cooley Kickhams (Louth) 09.02.2019
Walterstown played host to Cooley Kickhams from County Louth in their second game of the Leinster Cross county U15 leagues. A well supported Louth team were looking to record their first win in the competition. Our Louth neighbours presented a tough physical challenge on a very heavy pitch.
In a physical but fair first half both teams found it difficult to deal with the conditions. The defenses of both team’s worked tirelessly and scores were hard to come by. Fitness, attitude and determination was going to be a factor in winning this game. By half time Cooley held a slender lead but Walterstown had found the back of the net twice which kept us in touch throughout.
At half time Walterstown regrouped and as the second half commenced, we imposed ourselves on our opponents and slowed gained dominance. Early scores cancelled the lead and two further well worked goals along with some superb points propelled the team in black into a lead which was beyond Cooley to retrieve. This was a hard-fought deserved win. A victory in Round 3 guarantees a semi-final encounter. Refreshments were provided in the clubhouse for both teams afterwards and thanks to all who provided sandwiches and cakes.
Final Score Walterstown 4:7 Cooley Kickhams 2:9
Game 3 is 23rd February at 2.30pm at home to Seneschalstown. All support welcome.
