Walterstown V Navan O Mahonys Under 13 Division 2 Round 2
Tuesday 4th September in Walterstown
On a lovely fresh evening Walterstown welcomed Navan O Mahonys for the second game in the Under 13’s Autumn league. After a loss in the opening round the home team were eager to impress and imposed themselves on the opposition from the start.
The midfield duo of Neil McGinley and Evan Rothery took early command of the centre and the home team raced to a lead of 1 3 before the opposition registered their first point in reply. The momentum was with the home team and our defence was on top in the opening half with Cian Egan having a super game in defence for the blacks. Both teams traded a brace of goals but Luc Doyle and Conor Brady were scoring well with the other Walterstown forwards keeping the O Mahonys backs busy with precise passing, clever runs and great link up play. It was proving to be a great team effort.
Half Time Walterstown 2 11 Navan O’Mahonys 2 5.
The second half stared with O Mahonys in the ascendancy and they peppered the Walterstown goal with waves of attacks. After 10 minutes the lead had been wiped out O Mahonys were in control. Good play from the home teams half back and full back lines ensured the opposition forwards didn’t have their own way. Neil McMahon in goal saved well on more than one occasion and distributed the ball intelligently to his teammates. The introduction of many substitutes supported the tiring lads and helped the team regain control and command of the second half. This showed the importance of having a large squad of players with every boy eager to play. With 10 minutes to go the home team showed their class and composure and scored several quick goals and multiple points. Many different players got on the scoresheet which was great to see and showed the depth and talent within the squad.
